Long term relationships require a lot of commitment and effort precisely because people grow and change. If you want to be with someone, you must grow together. Otherwise, there is a huge risk that one of you is going to outgrow the other, and once that happens, it’s hard to take a step back.

Real couple goals are all about creating a strong bond, so what matters the most is the effort you put into your relationship when no one is watching. Remember, picture-perfect is not the goal – the goal is everything behind it.

Talking about how you feel is important in a relationship, but listening to what your partner has to say holds just as much value. Reflect on this: do you listen to your partner so you can reply, or do you listen to understand their point of view?

You both must know how to communicate in a relationship– actively share and actively listen and don’t just pretend to do so.

11. Support Each Other

As social creatures, humans need support systems to feel good and secure. And if you are planning on spending your life with someone, they need to be at the top of your support list – this goes both ways, of course.

Support each other through the good times and the bad times, and in all of your hopes and dreams. It’s easier to both fail and succeed if you know that no matter what you get to come home to someone who will show you their unconditional support.
