The key to a healthy relationship is open communication. That’s why you shouldn’t feel scared or embarrassed to speak your mind, even if it’s a hard thing to do.
When there’s respect in a relationship, both people are usually honest, because they know the other person will hear them out, respectfully. And by doing so, you’re creating trust and, hopefully, a long-lasting happy relationship.
However, if you clicked on this article, you might be having a hard time saying certain things to your partner.
This might happen for many reasons, maybe you’re in a toxic relationship, and you’re scared how your partner will react, or perhaps you just want to please the other person so bad that you’re ok with disrespecting yourself and go against your will as long you make them happy.
Even though certain things or thoughts should stay in our heads, others are meant to be spoken, and obviously, heard by the other person.
So without any further ado, let’s go through some things you shouldn’t be afraid to say in a relationship.
1. Saying: I don’t like that
Let’s say your partner has a certain attitude that you don’t like, but instead of saying something about it, you just don’t say anything at all, or worse, you pretend to like it.
This is creating an unhealthy habit in your romantic relationship. Especially at the beginning of a relationship, it’s normal to “test” some things out. If you don’t show how you truly feel, then they’ll just keep having certain behaviors and attitudes forever.
2. Telling them to listen to you
Even though you and your partner might have a connection, I’m sure mind-reading is not part of it.
What this means is that you should always tell your partner, through healthy communication, what you want or need.
You might say, “I don’t need to tell you to wash the dishes if you see they need to be washed!” which is yes, it’s true, but sometimes, certain people can walk past a housefire fire and not see it at all.
