3. You are abusive

Being physically and emotionally abusive is a clear sign of a toxic person. This is so obvious that it shouldn’t even be mentioned. However, the problem is that abusers often don’t feel like they are abusing their partners because they are always trying to come up with excuses to justify their heinous acts. This problem is more common than you might think. There is absolutely no reason to justify physical aggression, no matter how mild you may consider it in your head. Similarly, psychological and emotional abuse such as emotional blackmail, controlling online activity, or stalking your partner must not be tolerated. If you feel you may be abusing your partner, please end your relationship and seek psychological help.

4. You Are In A Codependent Relationship

A codependent relationship is when one of the people involved – often described as a clingy partner – is extremely needy and dependent upon the other person who, in turn, needs to feel needed. Those types of lovers mistake this dependence on love and often don’t realize how it can trigger a set of negative emotions on both sides. Codependent relationships may last a long time in some specific cases, but that doesn’t mean they are healthy and nurturing. They tend to include emotional and physical abuse and frequently lead to mental problems such as anxiety and depression.

5. You Are Always Trying To Shape Your Partner

Trying to change another person’s personality and behavior is always a bad principle. Some people do this in a very subtle manner, by asking their partners to avoid being with some specific people, trying to push them to pursue other hobbies or activities, or simply by trying to change a minor personality trait. Others are much more straightforward and manipulative, even prohibiting certain behaviors through emotional blackmail. If you can relate to any of these things, you are the one who needs to change. One of the compromises in a relationship that you need to make is accepting your partner’s passions, friends, and flaws. Remember all the reasons that led you to fall in love with your partner in the first place and don’t try to change every little thing that you don’t like about them.
